How a lot of Reddit memes became the best armor in Runescape
Old School Runescape, the antiquated version of Runescape that still looks and performs like the match I snapped innumerable hours into once I actually should've been studying, is getting a raid. Its second raid, as it happens: The Theatre of Blood. A fantastic raid requires good rewards, therefore when the Theatre of Blood was declared late last year, players were not able to find out what clearing the multi-man challenge could earn them. Jagex reacted with Justicar armor, a new best-in-slot armor place (above). There was one small problem: players absolutely hated it. They memed onto it so tough that Jagex is now totally altering the armor's design. And not only that, the artist behind the Justicar armor,"Mod West," is using layouts submitted and voted on by players. Almost all of Old School Runescape's upgrades go through player polls, but that is the first time a suit of armor has been forged in a passion of memes. The irony is that while gamers loathed the'final' armor revealed earlier this year, they adored the prototypes revealed while the raid was declared. Initially, the Justicar armor was bulkier and part of a trio of new armor sets, West informs me, but since the Theatre of Blood went from obscure concept to real content, the armor shifted with it. Participants said there was enough DPS equipment but insufficient tank equipment, so it had been narrowed down to only 1 armor collection. And when they were only going to use a single set, Jagex guessed they might as well make a new one based on the armor worn by the raid's big bad.

"We thought changing it a little made sense," West says,"but players were not quite on board with the original proposal we shared on stream. And then, well, Reddit went crazy." The memes came hard and fast. Some players said it was too similar to existing armor, such as armor out of Runescape 3, the newer, mainline version of Runescape. Many demanded a return to the prototype designs. Others believed the new armor did not look tanky enough and generously provided a few choices, with some calling for a more extreme redesign.
It got so bad that a few players began to seriously believe that a meme the updated armor was by a different artist, which the artist who made the prototypes had abandoned Jagex. But then something amazing occurred. Even as memes blotted out sunlight, slowly but certainly severe suggestions began to shine through. It started with crude Photoshop jobs, but soon appropriate illustrations and fan art started to crop up. Players rallied around the idea of a bulkier, blessed armor group inspired by the Runescape god Saradomin, so that they moved back into West's prototype designs and made some changes.
And then, a hero emerged: legend_arts, a talented and well-known Runescape fan artist. Driven from the memes and motivated by elements of West's designs along with other players' suggestions, legend_arts created a hybrid armor layout so great it not merely silenced the memes, it captured the attention of West himself. You may locate the changes in the Konar Drop list section of the article, below. The new update added a totally new region to the game, dubbed the Kebos Lowlands. While gamers have delighted over the numerous changes the new content has attracted, like the accession of a Farming Guild along with also a New Slayer Master, there has arisen a significant little fuss, especially from more experienced players, over the brand new Konar Drop Table. The new Slayer Master comes with a rewarding drop, providing rare drops such as Snapdragon and Torstol herbs or magic seeds -- items that are otherwise rather difficult to acquire.
