The reason behind not including those feature was that it was necessary to preserve the initial Wrath of the Lich King the experience of leveling as well because of the social aspect of the MMORPG that often requires players to speak to others and manually line together for quests or dungeons when they travel through Azeroth. Instead of being instructed on the map of where to go and what to kill like in the current WoW, Blizzard indicated it that they wanted to make WoW Classic as a distinct experience.

In a recent forum post, Blizzard now says its thinking on the subject has "changed quite an amount" since the first interviews.

"Just wanted to pop in and mention that we actually intend to incorporate some of the features for tracking quests which were introduced as part of patch 3.3 of the original Wrath of the Lich King into the Quest Log and Map UI at some point," Blizzard writes.

Quest tracking is not included within the Wrath of the Lich King Classic beta, and Blizzard clarifies that the feature along with other features such as the game's calendar in-game and the equipment manager, are currently in development. It's unclear if the currently planned plan is for quest tracking to be in place when Wrath Of The Lich King Classic's launch date or if it's a possibility to add it after the release.

In an interview that was conducted in May, WoW Classic director Brian Birmingham said Blizzard wouldn't add quest tracking for players to be able to level up in the expansion exactly like they did when the expansion was released in 2008. If this remains true, the quest tracker may not be present initially but it could be added in this game towards the conclusion of the expansion's content cycle exactly as it was originally.
