Proletariat is expected to become "fully inseparable" |
Blizzard tainment has acquired an Boston-based gaming studio Proletariat that will be working in World of Warcraft going forward to meet the "voracious appetite" from players for more content. This is happening in the same moment that Blizzard is itself being acquired by Microsoft via the Xbox maker's $75 billion deal to purchase Activision Blizzard.
Activision Blizzard confirmed on Friday that Blizzard's deal to acquire Proletariat has been concluded, and it also provided some additional information. The CEO Bobby Kotick said the company is planning to hire "hundreds" of developers in the coming two years . This will "serve the requirements" of the WoW player base.
"The incredible team at Proletariat will be a major part of our talent acquisition actions," Kotick said.Blizzard chief Mike Ybarra offered his own statement, declaring that the acquisition of Proletariat will help "meet and surpass" expectations of players.
"A critical part of taking care of players is taking care of our teams, making sure that we have the right resources to produce experiences our communities will love while giving our teams space to explore new possibilities in their projects" Ybarra said. "Proletariat is a perfect fit to support Blizzard's goal of bringing high-quality content to our players frequently."
Proletariat is expected to become "fully inseparable" within Blizzard in the coming times, Activision Blizzard said.
In the course of the agreement that was first revealed by VentureBeat, Proletariat will become an official Blizzard studio. The studio's 100 developers will join continuing development for WoW which includes the Dragonflight expansion due out this year. The most recent game by Proletariat, Spellbreak, is shutting down.
