Amid Old School RuneScape offering players the experience of the classic 2006 and the short-lived DarkScape offering players more PvP-based gaming experience. Today, developer Jagex has teamed up with the board game developer Steamforged Games to release not only one, but two tabletop games over the course of 2022.

Steamforged Games' collaboration with Jagex is the most recent in a long line of partnerships that have brought some of gaming's biggest franchises into a tabletop. The tabletop gaming juggernaut has made board games that are based upon series like Monster Hunter World and Dark Souls and most recently completed an extremely successful crowdfunding campaign for the Resident Evil 2 board game that raised more than 1 million GBP in the first quarter of this year.

Now, the game developer has set its sights on the Gielinor world and RuneScape with plans to release the board game as well as a book on the tabletop role-playing game's core in the year ahead. The two RPG versions will include many of RuneScape's top characters and places, allowing groups of five or more players to play classic quests that are part of RuneScape while bringing adventure within the world of Gielinor home.

Players will be able to craft and upgrade their equipment, interact with NPCs, and take on a variety of side quests inspired by classic MMORPG. The board game will launch by means of a Kickstarter campaign later this year, while the tabletop RPG book is scheduled to launch in stores immediately.

The essential book for tabletop RPGs will also be compatible with tabletop RPGs of massive size Dungeons and Dragons' fifth edition books, allowing dungeon masters to seamlessly incorporate elements from RuneScape into their games.

Jagex Director of Operations Phil Mansell was optimistic about the project and expressed his excitement about the Kickstarter project "involving the RuneScape community," while Steamforged CCO Mat Hart believed the "rich RuneScape universe is going to translate beautifully" into a tabletop world.

RuneScape has grown significantly from its web-based predecessors in recent times, with Steamforged's board game as the latest offering from Jagex. In an interview, numerous Jagex employees discussed the process of converting Runescape's mobile edition into the cross-platform edition in September, the game was launched.

Jagex has teamed up with the creator of the popular Old School RuneScape mod RuneLite HD to create the HD version accessible to all players. Steamforged's upcoming board game will offer the fans of RuneScape a second chance to experience all the adventures of Gielinor and make their own adventure.
