Both Runescape and Old School Runescape, the retro version of Jagex's longstanding MMORPG, are coming to Steam. Jagex confirmed the impending Steam release of both games today. Runescape, colloquially called Runescape 3 since it is the very updated variant of the sport, will arrive on October 14. Old School Runescape, which employs the 2007 version of this game for a base, will return to Steam sometime in 2021.

Runescape as most people knew it was originally released in 2001 and performed via a browser. Both games are on mobile stores for a while now. It is no coincidence that Runescape is coming to Steam as it approaches its 20th anniversary. "Jagex is on a mission to deliver the RuneScape world to more players globally," says CEO Phil Mansell. "Following our games' arrival on mobile stores, we're currently expanding the access to the desktop versions. Making them accessible to the Steam community is a significant step in achieving this goal. We are excited to see RuneScape debut on Steam from October 14th and look forward to Old School RuneScape's arrival next year, as we empower even more players to access and explore our rich and engaging living sport worlds"
Runescape and Old School Runescape are both technically free-to-play games, but many frequent players register to membership programs that unlock nearly all content. Therefore, Jagex provides"membership packages" via Steam. The Steam versions will also support achievements, and their Steam community hubs will double as a new spot for announcements and updates in the studio. In general, OSRS Mobile is good for easy AFK tasks or daily activities such as herb runs or birdhouse runs. It is not efficient to do some intensive bossing or such using mobile and actions such as these ought to be saved to get a mouse and keyboard for maximum efficiency.
This implies players aren't simply jumping to an old game, but right into a living-breathing MMO which continues to provide up new adventures to its own players. The same is true for'WoW Classic' that, since its release in 2019, has also received many content updates since launch.
With both games hailing from the early 2000s and discharging waves on waves of content through time, it's fair to say that by the mid 2010s these matches were rather different to their former selves. Whether that's because of feature bloat, power balancing or creep concerns is very much up to gamers on a case-by-case basis, but the fact that those games had become so large is partially why enthusiasts wanted to return to a more stripped back, refined experience. While that, of course, can be spurred on by a bunch of nostalgia, it is a simple enough concept to understand for any participant that has returned to some name after several years.
